The NW Network invites community to come together for a panel and group discussion around hate violence, policing, and gentrification. As hate motivated violence continues to rise across the country, the battle for Capitol Hill’s gay soul continues. Meeting an ongoing increase in hate violence with an increase in police presence supports the gentrification that erodes the existence of diverse LGBTQ communities on the hill – communities most vulnerable to and impacted by hate violence. Rainbow crosswalks and Safe Space stickers may signal a safe gay space, but safe for who?
Come with open minds, ears, as well as ideas on how we can all work towards a Capitol Hill that remains a safe and ACCESSIBLEneighborhood for all community members, especially those of us most impacted by and vulnerable to hate and bias-motivated violence.
