RESCHEDULED MAY 2018: Writing Revenge: a revenge fantasy writing workshop and support space for LGBTQ survivors of rape, sexual assault and abuse

This event has been rescheduled for May 2018. Stay tuned for an updated date.

We see every day the limitations of our criminal legal systems to uphold a semblance of justice for survivors of rape and sexual abuse. For queer and trans people, people of color, and others at the margins, we find ourselves actively targeted, misunderstood, or criminalized in our efforts to survive. Surviving violence—not just in an instant but in a lifetime navigating the impacts of trauma—isn’t always pretty or clean; it can be biting, kicking, screaming, ugly. In the emotional rollercoasters of trauma, anger can be especially challenging. Some survivors struggle to access anger while others may be terrified of the extent of their rage, their capacity for destruction, their hunger for vengeance. This group and writing workshop will offer queer and trans survivors space to address limitations of criminal responses to sexual violence, learn about historical and cultural narratives of revenge fantasy, and develop strategies for navigating hard emotions through creative expression.

If you have ever had Enough, wanted to Spit on someone’s Grave, or felt like a Monster, we are here for you.

This workshop is a booster for Thriving While Healing, our nine-week-long peer support group for LGBTQ survivors of sexual violence. The group is free and confidential, though space is limited. For questions and participation, please call at 206.568.7777 or email the group facilitators, sydney@nwnetwork.org or heather@nwnetwork.org, to set up time to speak with an advocate.
