Salary Range: $45k-$47k DOE and multi-lingual skills

This position will require some evening hours and occasional weekend hours.

A NW Network Staff Member:

  • Advocates for diverse bisexual, trans, gender non-conforming, lesbian & gay survivors of violence and abuse, including domestic & dating violence, sexual violence, hate violence and stalking among youth and adults;

  • Works on individual, grassroots and systems levels to create the conditions necessary to support loving and equitable relationships; and

  • Collaborates and works well as part of a team towards the shared goal of ongoing learning and strengthening our support to survivors of abuse.

Core Competencies of a Successful Community Advocate:

  • Skillfully uses advocacy as a model to support the self-determination of diverse LGBTQ survivors of violence.

  • Adept at: safety & support planning; navigating systems (criminal/legal/housing/medical); building meaningful referrals/collaboration; problem solving; understanding the impacts of trauma on LGBTQ survivors; upholding confidentiality; & supporting survivors to heal from impacts of abuse.

  • Remains knowledgeable of service and agency guidelines and procedures to make informed and independent decisions throughout the course of advocacy.

  • Commitment and skill in maintaining confidentiality within small communities, especially when participating in community events, cultural celebrations, and/or outreach.

  • Skillfully co-facilitates support groups and/or discussion groups as assigned.

  • Demonstrates creativity, solid analysis and cultural specificity when developing outreach strategies, presentations and community engagement projects.

  • Shows creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm while participating in LGBTQ cultural celebrations and events.

  • Completes and documents tasks on-time and within budget, submits reports thoroughly and on-time.

Key Tasks Include:

  • Utilizes NW Network assessment tools, advocacy approaches, analysis, and best practices to assist survivors and community members in a respectful, transparent, and authentic manner.

  • Manages crisis or high stress situations with discernment, empathy, and communication.

  • Seeks out support from co-workers & supervisor, proactively takes responsibility for self and work.

  • Meaningfully collaborates with culturally-specific community spaces and organizations to best support LGBTQ survivors navigating trauma and violence.

  • Takes initiative and works cooperatively to ensure smooth functioning of organizational systems.

  • Support leadership to respond to emergent community incidents and equity issues, such as: intimate partner violence, sexual assault, bias crimes, state violence, and organizing for broad community-based liberation.

  • Advance the NWN’s outreach and engagement strategies.

  • Provide training and technical assistance in areas of expertise as needed.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

Strongly Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeof dating & domestic violence, sexual violence, hate violence, stalking, and abuse.

  • Demonstrates a deep commitment to survivors of violence and self-determination of diverse bi, trans, lesbian and gay people/community.

  • Strong critical thinking, active listening, and problem-solving skills to address complex situations.

  • Flexibility, creativity, collaboration, and positive workplace attitude.

  • Ability to work in both office and ‘field’ settings.

  • Competence with basic office systems (computers, copiers, Office, Word/Excel etc…)

  • A working car, current drivers’ license and insurance and/or skill using public transportation.

Additional Desired Skills:

  • Experience in advocacy-based support models, trauma-informed care, and working with confidential information.

  • Familiarity with local and regional social service resources and organizations.

  • Experience working in diverse gay, lesbian, trans, bisexual and/or queer community contexts.

  • Multi-language skills (ASL included)
