Note: In an effort to disrupt the idea that only men perpetrate abuse, the pronouns used on this web site and in our literature that refer to perpetrators are predominantly female. Feel free to imagine the information using varied gender pronouns, such as he, ze or s/he.

ABOUT US:

The Northwest Network increases our communities' ability to support the self-determination and safety of bisexual, transgendered, lesbian, and gay survivors of abuse through education, organizing and advocacy. We work within a broad liberation movement dedicated to social and economic justice, equality and respect for all people and the creation of loving, inclusive and accountable communities.

We provide support and advocacy for LBGT folks of all genders who are surviving abuse. We are leather and kink friendly.

Our services are free and confidential. They include support groups, individual counseling, legal advocacy, shelter referrals, safety planning, basic needs assistance, community education and community organizing.

As a network of bisexual, trans, lesbian & gay survivors of abuse, we believe the following ideals should be reflected in our mission, programs, and services:

  • Abuse and violence require a unified community-wide response based on shared values of safety, justice and social change.  Abuse in the home reflects conditions of exploitation in the world.  Because of this, we maintain that our work to end racism, classism, homophobia and other forms of oppression is as important as our work to end battering.
  • We can no longer scapegoat people of color, trans, femme/butch, leather, working class and bisexual people as being "more likely" to have violent relationships.  We must work to empower--not silence--one another.
  • All people can work together to create a just and reconciled society that is incompatible with oppression, violence and exploitation.  We can hold people who abuse power in society and people who abuse power in their homes accountable for their actions.
