Who We Are

In 1987 a group of lesbian survivors of intimate partner violence formed Advocates for Abused and Battered Lesbians (AABL) in Seattle. What started as a seedling in the minds of underrepresented & under-resourced queer survivors, dreaming about what an organization by-and-for us could be, The Northwest Network has since grown to serve thousands of queer & trans survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, domestic violence, hate violence, stalking and harassment in our 37 years.

Our Mission

To support queer & trans survivors in reconnecting to their self-determination through advocacy-based counseling and community education.

Our Commitment

  • We help individuals and communities build loving and equitable relationships.

  • Our services are survivor-centric. We work with LGBTQ survivors to strengthen their own social networks and actively resist abuse.

  • Our roots are in the community. LGBTQ people’s intimate relationships and experiences of victimization have been dismissed as marginal, unnatural or insignificant. As one of only a handful of LGBTQ-specific domestic violence agencies in the United States, we bring the experiences of LGBTQ people to the forefront of our work.

  • All participants have the right to support that respects their complex lived experiences and does not value people differently based on their race, color, ethnicity, religion, family structure, sexual or gender identity and expression, national origin, immigration statues, physical or mental health status, disability, physical appearance, substance use, economic status, or engagement in sex work.

  • Our direct services are all free and confidential. We also offer resources for organizations and providers working in the field.

Advocacy

The NW Network offers ongoing advocacy-based counseling centered on survivors’ choices and self-determination. We work to create a supportive space for survivors to decrease isolation, understand the dynamics of abuse, heal from trauma, increase skills and build self-esteem on the road to creating the lives and relationships they want.

Relationship Skills Class Curriculum

This curriculum provides folks with what they need to start and run a relationship skills class. We’ve invested extensively in a comprehensive evaluation of the relationship skills class. The process, findings, and outcomes made clear that the series is creating a cultural shift in relationships and community understandings. We are humbled and happy to be able to offer the Curriculum to this six-week Relationship Skills Class Series to our communities and allies.
